What is Counselling?

The NHS defines counselling as a "talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues."

Counselling allows people to discuss their problems and any difficult feelings that may arise for them in a safe and confidential environment. People often seek counselling when something doesn’t feel right, when they want to change something in their lives, or they simply wish to explore their thoughts and feelings more deeply.

Counselling is not a quick fix and it takes a commitment from both a client and their therapist to work towards their desired end goal. Counsellors help their clients to better understand their issues, whilst developing alternative ways of coping.

Counselling Sessions

Please note, a free 30 minute consultation can be arranged with our Senior Counsellor Iain Forward via zoom or over the telephone. Iain will then arrange your counselling sessions with your therapist of choice (depending on their availability).

To arrange a consultation, or a counselling session please
book an appointment or complete the enquiry form on the Contact page.

Face-to-Face

Face to face counselling offers a more traditional approach to therapy, where a physical and psychological space is shared between a client and their therapist.

This is a great option to consider if you value a dedicated, consistent and safe space for your counselling sessions. Without fear of being judged you can sit safely alongside your therapist who will support you through the full array of emotions that enter the room. This is an experience that really is unrivalled.

We recognise that this may be a daunting prospect for some, however, please be assured you are in safe hands and together we will work towards your goals.

Video

Online Counselling

On a busy schedule? Perhaps video counselling is the right choice for you!

As we have found ourselves in the midst of a pandemic, online counselling has really boomed. With many of us wanting to move towards achieving a greater work-life balance, video counselling offers the best of both worlds. A dedicated time for you to explore any unresolved issues, whilst being within the comfort of your own home, where travel expenses and time needn’t be accrued.

Video counselling sessions are held on Zoom, a teleconferencing platform that ensures privacy with password protected sessions.

Telephone

Thought to be as effective as face-to-face counselling, telephone counselling is another great option for remote support.

Popular among many, this method of support is arguably the most accessible form of counselling available to those who live in the UK.

Walk & Talk

Outdoor Therapy

The benefits of being in the great outdoors is widely documented as a growing body of research suggests that spending time among nature can lead to improvements in mood, self-esteem, confidence and physical health; as well as reductions in anxiety, low-mood and anger. Walk & Talk therapy allows us to integrate the mind and the body to create a sense of balance.

The topic of conversation remains as it would with any other form of therapy; the stressors, worries, and frustrations that you want to talk about.

This type of therapy may appeal to those who are apprehensive about counselling in a more traditional face-to-face setting. Walk and Talk Therapy is held locally at Norbury Park (KT22 9DX).
